UNWELCOME ACCESSORY: How to Fight Blemishes and Other Beauty Blunders
It's a bride's worst nightmare. The morning of your wedding you wake up to discover that a huge, bright red zit has arrived on your face as a special gift from the karma god. You knew better than to make fun of your cousin's wedding dress at her wedding, but she sooo deserved it. Now you're the one facing a lifetime of ridicule. You can hear them now. remember Julie's wedding? Remember that huge blemish she had on her chin? Oh, yes you do, there it is in this picture!
What to do? Well, you could try Windex, but unless you're the father in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, the only thing you'll get from using Windex is an even bigger red rash all over your face. Instead, try dabbing apple cider on the red area to steady the pH balance and to reduce redness. Then use a yellow-based concealer to cover it. Pat it on with a light hand and feather out the edges so you don't have a light ring around the huge spot.
There is another myth that toothpaste (not gel) will reduce the size and redness of your unwelcome accessory. We recently had reason to try it; it does seem to work. It is also rumored to work on reducing the redness and itch of other red spots, like poison ivy and mosquito bites. Dab it on with a q-tip and let it dry. Leave it on for as long as you can before you apply makeup.
For a really big problem, try an ice compress. Use the warm compress another time because it may cause more redness or dryness.
So, if that uninvited guest shows up on your face the morning of your big day, don't freak out because stress will only increase the risk of more spots. Reach for the cider, toothpaste, or ice and hope for the best!
